Religion and the Basis of Being

The Basis of Being follows along with the traditions of religious practice, but it is not a religion. It is rooted in the deepest foundations of all major religions, but it doesn't emulate them; there is no dogma, tradition, ritual or practice. Drawing upon this 'age-old' wisdom and the common sense of several thousand years of human evolution, is how the Basis of Being came about. It singles out, or isolates the truths of being human; the basics, or basis if you will, and turns it into a workable guide for life. You might think that this sounds a lot like Scientology, Christianity, or any hundreds of other 'religions' out there, even Satanism, but it is not.

It does draws from all of these, though. The fundamental difference is that these religions focus on the spiritual aspects of existence whereas the Basis of Being is focused on the common every day aspects of life. The intent was to look at humanity from a mundane, not spiritual, standpoint and find common elements that allows for both personal growth and peaceful coexistence with our fellow Earthly inhabitants. Religions provide a vessel, or 'boat' for you to climb into and be carried along on your journey, the Basis of Being provides a guide for you travel on your own, use whatever vehicle you are comfortable with.

Sure, there are things that you should do, the Basis of Being calls these Maxims, but you are not forced to follow these suggestions. You will not burn in some imagined hell if you do not follow them to the letter. Your soul is not what we are concerned with, you are. This is all about the here and now; not what is going to happen after you pass on. This is not intended to be a blueprint to the meaning of life. It is in no way meant to be a complete guide to living life correctly. There are many areas that are intentionally vague; junctions where a person might be left to their own devices to cultivate their own answers, their own solutions.

This is necessary. Human beings are notoriously fickle; our needs, wants, and desires change on an almost daily basis. There is no single correct way for everyone to live. We are all different and we each have our own journey to take and no two lives will ever be the same. You might find, though, that in walking along with the Basis of Being, you have indeed led a virtuous, honest, and good life. This is because human beings are naturally good; we want to be happy and peaceful. You might think, "Now wait a minute, I've heard that human nature is to destroy ourselves, that we are doomed to extinction."

Why is this? Is it because of our nature? Mankind is better than that, so let us not sell ourselves short. Our true nature is to be at peace. Has anyone ever felt guilty about being happy? Or, helping out someone in need? Many belief systems work under the assumption that mankind is inherently evil and that our purpose on this world is set in stone. This is a fallacy. Humans are born innocent; that's makes us susceptible to whatever life throws at us. If we are cultivated properly, with love, understanding, and compassion, instead of driven by fear and doubt, then we will lead a good life. Many charismatic religious leaders of the past and present have led us to believe that they have our best interests at heart.

In reality maybe they want us to fail and come to rely on them in our hour of need; to help us with this seemingly impossible 'task' we call life, for a small donation of course. These individuals are not serving God or any other divine being, they are simply serving themselves. This is not a slight against all or even a specific religion. But if you are asked to pay for spiritual guidance then you should probably reconsider your decision. Sure, things can go wrong during our journey. There may be mishaps, there may be snags, there may be things that come out of nowhere that make us question the next step.

Things that make us wonder what it is all for, the why and wherefore of our existence. Very bad things might ensue; there may be hurdles along the way, but the Basis of Being will guide you to the realization that nothing is without consequence, but they are consequences that can be dealt with, learned from, and cultivated into something better. The Basis of Being does not condone violence, or breaking any law. If another is harmed in your endeavors to lead your life, then all is for naught. You have let only yourself down. You might think that The Basis of Being gives you a license to do anything.

Sure, as long as it does not interfere with anyone else's Basis of Being. If, through your actions, someone else has a near insurmountable obstacle thrown in front of them on their path, then the Basis of Being might not be for you. You are not ready to cultivate your own path in life. If you purposefully go against what you KNOW in your heart to be well and good, then you might find some other belief system better suited to your intentions. Most people have no real grasp of what governs their existence. They do not know what there purpose is; some may not even care.

The Basis of Being will help one realize that purpose. In essence, the Basis of Being is about you. Honestly, the purpose of life is to live. There is no grand schema, no set path, and no set destination. It is all about the journey. The path you choose on your journey will change with your needs, wants, and desires, but it is your path, not anyone else's. It is defined by you and you alone. And yet, The Basis of Being helps us cultivate a better understanding of our fellow travelers and ourselves. The purpose is to give you the tools necessary to improve your life through understanding your inner self.

Book 1: Chapter 1: Maxim 8: Never betray another person's trust in you. Trust is hard earned and often impossible to regain. Favor is a precious gift, and a person who gains it through deceit does not deserve a second glance.
