Kabbalah and the Basis of Being

By Liam Ballinagar

We have stated that the Basis of Being supports all beliefs and religious paths that lead to a peaceful pursuit of happiness and prosperity; but there is one ‘religion’ that I can’t fathom. I’ve made it my lifelong duty to study and catalogue most of the religions out there and this one is difficult to correlate to anything other than itself. I’m going to refer to this brand of Kabbalah as Western Kabbalah – the version that has taken many celebrities (as Scientology has) by storm.

First and foremost, I would like to state, from the Western Kabbalahists point of view – they are not a religion. Kabbalah is Light. It should also be noted that Western Kabbalah has no correlation it seems with Traditional Kabbalah, which is the next level in the religion of Judaism. Sure, the traditional Kabbalahist’s beliefs are centered in mysticism and magic, just as the Western Kabbalahist’s knowledge dictates; but, from what I gather, the similarities end there.

It could be, though, that their similarities are even more profound than at first glance. According to Judaism, one couldn’t learn Kabbalah if one was a woman, or under a certain age, or any number of other conditions. Western Kabbalah, makes sure that the same knowledge the ancient mystics held on to is available to all, regardless of religion, creed, sex, or race. I say knowledge; because Western Kabbalahists don’t believe in their teachings…they know them.

They are simple statements of fact. They state that by believing something, there is the possibility of believing in something else; but if you ‘know’ it…there is absolutely no room for doubt. This is pretty sound advice; but, without leaving some room for doubt, there is no possibility for growth. Without growth, there is no progression. The Basis of Being shows us that if belief is what you need to be happy, then do so. If knowledge is what you need to be happy, then find it.

And, above all, question everything, form your own opinions. Kabbalah teaches many things; that we are more than the sum of our talents and skills, but that these mean nothing without knowing the rules of the ‘Game of Life’. There is definitely much more to it, but if you can get past the fact that they believe (excuse me…know) that a book, The Zohar, produces the Light of the universe and grants magical abilities, then you may see that there are several good points to the message they are trying to send.

This book, the Zohar, as Kabbalahists believe been around for 4,000 + years; but has only come to surface in the last few years because the teachings of Kabbalah have been passed down orally; much like Druidism. This may be why we have heard little of it in the past. But, Kabbalahists claim that the Zohar knew that the earth was round before it was discovered to be so; the Zohar also knew that there seven continents instead of two before it was discovered.

I can’t help but wonder if the Zohar was written by a Viking; because, as we know they sailed around the globe long before Christopher Columbus set out on his journeys. This book though seems to be the Bible in its purest form. Just as the Torah is the first several chapters of the Old Testament, we can only say that perhaps the Zohar is the culmination of the Bible before Christianity. But, why haven’t we heard of it until recently. Where has this book or the knowledge of the book been since, well, forever?

There seem to be no answers other than it being oral tradition. It was mentioned earlier that there are some good points; as, there is chaos without some order to the world. This order is in the form of rules. These rules are for the Game of Life. And the Zorah, has those rules laid out for everyone to bear witness to. The ancient teachings of the Zorah, reveal to all who wish it the secrets of the universe. Within those pages lay the secrets of immortality, life, the universe and quite possibly the question that fits the answer: 42.

Kabbalahists claim that this isn’t mysticism or sorcery, just plain old science; but that the ancient Rabbi’s that taught from the Zorah, had this knowledge well before it was ever considered eligible for the rest of the world to know about it. This would be easier to believe if this book didn’t seem to come out of nowhere well after all the modern technological and scientific discoveries of the last several centuries didn’t already happen. It just seems too convenient.

Here is where we can interject; we could say that the Basis of Being has been around for 4,000 years or more because it is based on common sense. But, to that, we can also say that the Basis of Being has been around since mankind first set foot on this globe. The Basis of Being contains this light of the universe, as well; the same as the Zorah claims to. But, the Basis of Being teaches that it inside us all; not the mystical center of the book that we offer.

So then, why does the Kabbalahist claim that common sense is mystical? Why wouldn’t someone be able to learn common sense and know it to be just that? From what can be learned of Kabbalah, it seems as though, they teach that these rules (read: common sense) can only be taught to you via the Zorah. Yes, we are stating that common sense is not that common, as well; but there is no mysticism to it; and it’s only being suggested in book form to remind us that all that anything in life takes is a little common sense. There’s nothing abstract about that.

Is this a cult? A religion with a Hollywood twist that is designed to draw people in, suck out their life and believe in the unbelievable? I am not one to say. I only hope lives are touched and changed for the better.

The Basis Of Being supports all beliefs that lead to a prosperous and peaceful lifelong pursuit of happiness for not only ourselves, but those around us.
