Islam is a religion which has been given much press and scrutiny lately due to various violent acts by people who claim to be followers of this belief system. Yet despite all the reports and documentaries it is probably one of the least understood, and at times most reviled, religions of our time. This is not the fault of a biased media; it is the fault of those who accept all that they are told by the media as truth.
One of the most important aspects of the Basis of Being is to understand the world we live in and the various forces that move about us. To this end, it is important that we not rely simply on what we are told by the press or other sources to form our opinion on a religion or any topic for that matter.
We should look into these things for ourselves and form our own individual thoughts and conclusions. So let us take a look at the teachings of true Islam and see what it is really all about.
Followers of Islam, Muslims, believe in only one God and He alone should be worshiped. To worship any other god is sacrilege. The Arabic word for God is Allah. He is the ultimate being and is responsible for the creation of all things. The name Allah can only be used to refer to the ultimate and supreme God and Him alone. The followers of Islam also believe in the angels and that Gabriel appeared to Muhammad and gave him the Quran, a book that is protected by God from any corruption or distortion. Muhammad was the last of God’s prophets. Some of the other prophets they recognize as being sent by God are Adam, Abraham, Jacob, Moses and Jesus.
The Basis of Being is not a religious text nor is it intended to be one. It is a mundane guide to living a good life. It is compatible with all positive belief systems and accepts that a person may choose to follow the teachings of a divine deity, in this case THE Divine deity. There can be no better example for living a good life than that of God himself.
Muslims also believe in what is known as Divine Predestination, or Al-Qadar. However, they also believe that God has given all men freewill. This may seem a contradiction at first but it is easily addressed. All humans have freewill and are responsible for their actions. Divine Predestination merely means that God knows what each person will choose to do with their freewill. He does not force them in one direction or another.
Humans are responsible for their own actions, for good or evil. He simply already knows what direction each person will choose to go. This is an important distinction and one that must be clearly understood.
The aspect of freewill is an important one. It clearly states that humans have the innate ability to choose their path in life. The Basis of Being also holds to this philosophy. No being, good or evil, makes us do the things we do. We alone are each responsible for our actions and the consequences of them. This is an area where the Basis of Being can be of benefit. It is a book of real world examples of positive behavior and common sense.
In this day and age there are so many avenues by which we can be lead astray or become ensnared in negative behaviors.
So many times people say that they were made to do some heinous act by God, Satan, or some other supernatural entity. They do this in an effort to clear themselves of any responsibility for their actions. This is an excuse made by the weak and cowardly. No person or being makes us do anything against our wills. If we do good or evil it is because we choose to do so. It is as simple as that.
As with all belief systems there are radical elements that distort the teachings and bend them to their own desires.
Unfortunately, Islam has received much bad press recently due to the various terrorist acts committed by followers of this religion. It needs to be stressed that the acts of a few should not cast a shadow on the group as a whole. True followers of Islam do not hold to the belief in killing innocent people, regardless of the circumstances. These acts are the result of a few radicals who try to mask their actions behind the reasoning that it is God’s will. Anyone who doubts this should take a deeper look into the true teachings of Islam.
These days most people rely on the media or third parties to tell them what Islam is all about. Unfortunately these sources all have their own agenda’s and are not always forthcoming with the truth.
It is critical that a person does their own research and comes to their own conclusions and not simply accept what is fed to them by the media or others. Even those who do not follow the teachings of Islam should research it further so they understand that it is a religion of peace and not violence. If more people took the time to truly understand this belief system it would not be viewed with such negativity.
Islam is a truly fascinating religion with a very rich history. Its teachings preach peace and harmony. The Basis of Being is also centered on peace and harmony and is intended to show real world examples of things we can do to follow this path. It is not a text that is meant to append, decipher, or replace the Quran. It is just a mundane text that attempts to give examples of how to live a positive life for both ourselves and those around us.
The Basis Of Being supports all beliefs
that lead to a prosperous and peaceful lifelong pursuit
of happiness for not only ourselves, but those around us.
